2020 Census

Every 10 years the U.S Census Bureau conducts a census to count those individuals living in the United States and in the five U.S. territories. Mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the results of the census help to determine federal funding and congressional representation.

The next Census will occur during March and April 2020 (April 1, 2020 is officially “Census Day”). Follow-up with non-responding households will take place during May-July 2020.

Why is the Census Important to Mower County?

Data collected from the census:
 -  Guides federal funding to communities for schools, roads, emergency services, health and human services, and more.
 -  Determines our representation (the number of members) in the United States House of Representatives and the Minnesota House of Representatives.
 -  Assists businesses in deciding where to locate or build their facilities and recruit employees.

Everyone counts! Mower County is determined to reach everyone in our county to help ensure a complete count that accurately represents our cities and townships.

What is Mower County Doing to Get Ready for the 2020 Census?

Mower County has authorized a Complete Count Committee (CCC) and will be working jointly with the City of Austin to assemble a committee of trusted leaders from a broad cross section of city and county organizations. The CCC’s objectives are to help alert, inform, and educate our residents about the 2020 Census and promote participation. The CCC will begin meeting this summer to coordinate efforts leading up to March and April 2020 when the Census form will be available to complete.

For more information on our local Complete Count Committee, please contact Scott Felten, Mower County Auditor-Treasurer, at 507-437-9457, or scottf@co.mower.mn.us.
