Employment Opportunities:  Male Jailer - Sheriff's Department

 

 

The County is currently seeking qualified applicants for full-time male jailer positions.  Note: if you submitted an application in 11/2009 DO NOT re-apply.  Your application is still in consideration.

 

The primary responsibilities for this position include supervising detainees by performing well being checks, ordering and issuing meals, booking and releasing detainees (fingerprinting, mugshots, searches, etc.), security inspections to ensure the safety of detention staff and detainees, implementing the policies and procedures of the department, and other responsibilities as detailed in the job description.

 

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license and no gross misdemeanor or felony convictions.  Physical abilities include stooping, bending, sitting, walking, running, climbing, unusual positioning, and the ability to restrain detainees.  These activities require moderate to heavy forces including twisting and torquing.

 

Desired qualifications include the ability to react in a professional manner in a high stress environment, effective communication skills, knowledge of basic computer operations, education or experience in Law Enforcement/Corrections, CPR, First Responder / CNA, or EMT / Paramedic desired.

 

Each applicant will be given a written exam.  The exam will be administered by providing it to each applicant upon their bringing in their application.  Applicants who submit their application by mail will be notified of a specific date(s) and time(s) in which to come in to take the test.  The exam should take approximately 15 minutes.  A qualifying criminal history background investigation and pre-employment drug test will be conducted prior to any appointment.

Mower County Human Services is seeking individuals who are interested in becoming qualified for possible future employment with the Department.  (Individuals fluent in Spanish and English are encouraged to apply.)  

The Minnesota Merit System establishes minimum qualifications for each type of position, based on education and experience, and administers testing for applicant. The names of individuals achieving a passing score are then listed on a Register for consideration when an opening occurs.
