Property Tax Payment Options
Property Tax Payment Information
The following payment methods are available:
Property taxes can be paid in-person at the “Taxpayer Services” windows located near the Auditor-Treasurer’s office in the Mower County Government Center at 201 First Street NE, Austin. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, excluding holidays.
Property taxes can be paid by mail using the green envelopes included with your property tax statement. The mailing address is: Mower County Auditor-Treasurer, 201 First Street NE, Suite 7, Austin, MN 55912. Make checks payable to “Mower County”. Please remember to include the payment stub from the property tax statement with your payment, especially when you are paying the taxes on multiple parcels. Payments for current year taxes must be postmarked on or before the due date to avoid late penalties. Payments of prior year delinquent taxes must be received by the Auditor-Treasurer’s office by the last day of the month in order to avoid penalty or interest for the following month from being charged.
A property tax payment drop box is located just outside the LEC (law enforcement center) entrance on the northwest side of the Mower County Government Center. This drop box is accessible 24 hours a day and the contents are emptied multiple times during the day.
Property taxes can be paid by automatic withdrawal. Please complete the automatic withdrawal form to get set up on this payment option. The automatic withdrawal form must be received at least two weeks before the next property tax due date in order to be in effect for the next payment due date.
Over the Phone
Property taxes can be paid over the phone by credit card (an additional 2.5% processing fee will be assessed), or by “e-check” ($1.50 fee assessed for tax payment under $10,000; and $10.00 fee assessed for tax payment over $10,000) which is done by providing your bank routing number and bank account number over the phone. Please call 507-396-8219 or 507-396-8220 to make property tax payments by this method. It is extremely helpful to have your property tax statements with your parcel ID number with you when you call.
Property tax payments can be made online. In order to pay online, you must have your parcel ID # (xx.xxx.xxxx) that is listed on your property tax statement. Also note that you can only pay for one parcel at a time. If you have multiple parcels, you will need to pay each one separately.
