Spring Load Restrictions

Highway Maintenance

Our maintenance crews are responsible for the care of more than 400 miles of highway, 370 bridges and nearly 5,000 culverts throughout Mower County.  Our operators work year-round on our highways. Summer months are spent completing shouldering, patching, crack sealing, paving, culvert repairs, ditch cleaning, and mowing.  In the winter, our operators focus on keeping our roads clear of snow and ice, tree and brush removal and equipment maintenance.

Fleet Maintenance

The mechanics in the Highway Department are not only responsible for the trucks and heavy equipment used to maintain our network of roads, but also the fleet of almost 50 vehicles used by other county services such as the Assessor, Health and Human Services and the Sheriff's Department.

Engineering/Construction

The engineering technicians are responsible for the surveying, design and construction inspection on the highways and bridges in our capital improvement plan. They ensure that projects meet specifications and communicate with the public and contractors.
